Autograph letter signed : place not specified, to George Thomson, [1796 Feb.].

Thanking him for a gift sent to Mrs. Burns and for a volume of Pindar. Discussing subscriptions and subscribers. Approving of Thomson's plan to publish an octavo edition of the collection with etchings, and offering to "lend every assistance." Giving the verses for "Hey for a lass wi' a torcher Tune, Balinamona and ora." Discussing his use of the name Chloris, noting that it is the fictitious name of a "certain lady" (Jean Lorimer) but that it is "a high incongruity to have a Greek a[ppellation] to a Scotch Pastoral Ballad." Promising to continue the discussion and send edits in a following letter.
